Industrial Dining at the East Dulwich Supper Club

Fancy a 'lid off the box' dining experience? Once a month we transform our business premises in East Dulwich into a pop up restaurant.  You get to see what goes on behind the scenes in a professional kitchen as our chefs create sensational dishes before your very eyes!  Our evenings are often further enhanced by live music provided by local musicians who make full use of the kitchen acoustics, adding to the already buzzing atmosphere.

We recommend that you arrive hungry to ensure you fully appreciate the delicious feast ahead. The evening kicks off with canapés and cocktails before moving onto a specially designed bespoke 3 course menu which includes all the best seasonal organic produce from local suppliers. The evening concludes with contented diners chatting about their favorite dish while sipping fair trade coffee and trying to find room for a few sneaky petit fours!  We can accommodate up to 36 guests and welcome everyone, from those flying solo, to couples, groups and even wedding parties! To top it off it’s BYO, so whatever your choice of tipple bring it along and corkage is free.  For a more exclusive event, why not book an evening at the chef’s table for your own select list of guests!

We love hearing from and working with local independent companies, so if you fancy joining forces and showcasing your business then drop us a line. So far we have collaborated with an array of local businesses including a wine company offering tastings on the night, a cake company offering booty bags of delicious cupcakes to take home, and a fantastic Jazz trio! Not only is great exposure for your business but we also offer two seats at that evening's Supper Club in return.

Supper Club is run as a not for profit event that allows us to raise funds for the Suzanne James Food Foundation, a project we are developing in local schools.  To cover costs we ask for a suggested donation of £30 per person.

Dates are usually released 2 to 3 weeks before each event and fill up very quickly.  Supper Club members are given 24 hour advance notice of each date before it goes on general release.  To sign up for your free of charge membership email us.

Food Foundation  - Grow, Prepare, Cook and Share

The Suzanne James Food Foundation is a not for profit arm of the business set up to allow us to give something back to our local community.  We are currently working with Goodrich Community Primary School & St Mary Magdalene CofE Primary School helping to educate the younger generation so that they appreciate the value of eating healthly  and experience the joy of growing their own produce.

Our current project is called ‘Grow, Prepare, Cook and Share’, and as the name implies, we teach the children how to grow their own vegetables,  how to prepare them properly and the best ways to cook them using different recipes so they are delicious to share and eat!

We always use seasonal produce so they get to see a wide range of fruit and vegetables growing and grasp a firm understanding of what is in season at what time of year.  Like all children our pupils love getting their hands dirty, and being able to plant their own seeds means they are not only learning about different produce and how they grow in different ways but also having lots of fun at the same time.  Showing the children new and different recipes they haven’t heard of before is fantastic, as in suprising them when they unexpectedly discover they like a vegetable they had previously dismissed (peer pressure can be a wonderful thing at times!).  Reassurance is sometimes necessary as they add their carefully nurtured produce into a mix of ingredients, but their concerns are soon followed by relief when they smell and taste the finished product!  It is a thoroughly rewarding project that engages the children on many different levels and - we hope - brings an enthusiasm for food and cooking into their lives from a very early age.

How do we fund the ‘Food Foundation?

Each month we turn our professional kitchen into a pop up restaurant and host a supper club.  A minimum of £1 from each guests donation goes directly to the Foundation, ensuring it's ongoing success.

H O P E  - Helping Others Promote Enterprise

Using our business expertise and culinary skills we have been mentoring a group of five teenagers from Harris Girls Academy, East Dulwich since 2011.  We help them to bake and sell cupcakes to raise money for their charity - HOPE. Suzanne was born and bred in East Dulwich and went to the same school herself, in the days when it was known as Waverely Girls.  In 1997 she started her own business after saving just £10 a month whilst working at a London catering company. Her inspiration came from watching other local businesses evolve as she was growing up.  It took time for Suzanne’s dream to become a reality, but 10 years later her drive and determination has led her to become Director of one of the most successful catering businesses in London!  Through her role as mentor Suzanne hopes to inspire the next generation, proving that anything is possible and motivating them to make their own dreams come true. 

Apart from showing them how to bake the most divine cupcakes, we also teach them about product development, presentation skills and sales techniques in order to enhance their business knowledge and assisting them in their goal to raise money for two very deserving charities.  The girls make the cupcakes in their own time in the school kitchen and then sell them online.  100% of the profit from the sale of the cupcakes is donated to two charities; Evelina Children’s Heart Organisation and the Nabiswa Primary and Nusery School in Uganda.

We help to promote HOPE through the Suzanne James website and newletter, and they are also included in our Little Black Book of useful contacts, which we pass on to every client.

Local Greens

Local greens is a fantastic not for profit vegetable scheme which sells organic vegetable boxes full of delightful seasonal produce from small organic, or spray free farms close to South East London.  They have recently started working with local schools as well, so, for example, if a school like Goodrich Community Pimary School is growing salad, they can now sell it to Local Greens and raise money for the school!  The boxes are sold through various outlets in East Dulwich and Herne Hill, or you can buy them on line at www.localgreens.org.uk

We are smitten with this fabulous community business - so much so that each quarter we dedicate one of our Supper Club events to Local Greens. When the vegetables arrives our creative, culinary minds start racing with ideas as we deliberate over what to cook using this sensational box of seasonal tricks!
